PainChek Android Release Note - Update 4.9 May 2018

Who should read this?

This release note applies applies to all PainChek users who use the PainChek Android application.

What is the PainChek Android app?

The PainChek Android app is an application that allows pain assessments to be be carried out using devices running android versions 6.0 and later - i.e. Marshmallow, Nougat and Oreo.  For more details on supported devices, search for "supported devices" at http://www.painchek.com/android-app-faq/.

What's happening?

The PainChek Android application, release 4.9, is going to be made available soon for download from the Google Play Store.

What's changed?

The 4.9 release includes the following improvements over the previous 4.8 version:

  • Drop the "Dr" prefix from being applied to patient/client/user comments
  • Adding support for devices without a flash built-in (I'm looking at you Galaxy Tab A 9.7'')
  • Improving the privacy of client/patient/resident profile photo images by moving them the devices gallery (where they can easily be viewed using other applications on the device) to the a secure, private area that only the PainChek application can access.
  • Disabling of automatic deleting of incomplete assessments.  These were being silently deleted in the background after 30 minutes, leading to the impression that data was disappearing from the device.  We will re-introduce the automatic deletion functionality in a later release, but do so in a manner that gives the user visibility and control over the process.  
  • Numerous other minor bug fixes and improvements

What do I have to do?

You will need to delete and reinstall PainChek in order to gain the full benefit from this update.

Although Painchek may have updated itself automatically, PainChek will continue to store the client/patient/resident profile photo images in the original, less secure location.

It is highly recommend that you use the instructions below to delete PainChek from your device and reinstall it from scratch. That will ensure your device and PainChek is as secure as possible.


The steps to delete and reinstall PainChek are:

  1. Sign into PainChek and make sure it is synchronised - you'll need internet connectivity for this.  As long the bottom of the the main dashboard is showing the current date/time after you sign in, your device is synchronised:

    Once your device is synchronised, you can exit the PainChek app.

  2. Delete the old version of PainChek.  The exact steps will vary depending on your device and version of android, but a common method is:
    i. Go into the apps folder on your device:
    ii. Find PainChek and then press and hold it for a few seconds.
     
      The uninstall trashcan should appear and you can slide the PainChek app onto the trashcan:

    Once over the trashcan, release the app.

    iii. Confirm the "Do you want to uninstall this app" alert

  3. Install the new version of the PainChek app using the Google Play store (the same way you would download any app):

    i. Find the GooglePlay store app:


    ii. Search for "painchek" and the chose the install option:


  4. Once PainChek is installed, you can sign in and use it as normal


As you are deleting the existing version of PainChek, your "quick sign in" and "my patients/clients/resident" configuration will be lost and will need to be set-up again
